Food Rescue Summer Party
Volunteers, advocates, and community members--come celebrate Food Reclamation with music from the Tanana Rafters and locally-brewed beer at the Church of Love in Spenard!
Each year Food Bank of Alaska reclaims millions of pounds of food (mostly fresh produce) thanks to over 19,000 volunteers hours. Our volunteers do awesome work at all levels of Food Bank of Alaska: they enter donations and do administrative tasks, sort through reclaimed food so that high quality produce goes out to Mobile Food Pantries, and run those same Mobile Food Pantries all across Anchorage, six days a week. They advocate for policies that address social causes related to hunger, move pallets around the warehouse, and serve on our board.
Food reclamation is at the heart of what we do. For most of the history of Food Bank of Alaska, our slogan was "Cache and share. Don't waste food." We're still enthusiastic about preventing delicious produce from going into landfills and making sure that agencies can use it to serve their clients.
